Open-Source Multi-Access Edge Computing for 6G: Opportunities and Challenges

Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is capable of meeting the challenging requirements next-generation networks, e.g., 6G, as a benefit providing and caching capabilities in close proximity users. However, traditional MEC architecture relies on specialized hardware its bespoke software functions are closely integrated with hardware, hence it too rigid for supporting rapidly evolving scenarios face demanding 6G. As remedy, we conceive compelling concept open-source-defined cellular networking intrinsically amalgamate MEC, which defined by open-source running general-purpose platforms. Specifically, an (OpenMEC) scheme presented relying pair core principles: decoupling resources from each other aid network function virtualization (NFV); well reconfiguration disaggregated into customized instances. This philosophy allows operators to adaptively customize their users’ networks. Then, develop improved OpenMEC discuss both key components process reconfiguration.
